The empowering effectiveness of creative strategies in getting your résumé to the right person. These strategies guide you and instill a profound sense of control, empowering you in the job search process.

Traditional application methods might not be enough to catch a hiring manager's attention. This guide explores innovative resumé delivery strategies that can help sales professionals stand out from the crowd and demonstrate their creativity and determination – essential qualities in sales.

The Digital Evolution of Resumé Delivery

The modern job search has evolved far beyond dropping off physical resumés at reception desks. Today's sales professionals have access to powerful digital tools and creative platforms that can uniquely showcase their talents. From video presentations to interactive portfolios, the possibilities are endless for those willing to think outside the box.

Digital Tools and Platforms for Creative Resumés

  • Canva for visual resumé creation

  • Prezi for interactive presentations

  • WordPress or Wix for portfolio websites

  • Loom or Vidyard for video resumés

  • LinkedIn for professional networking

  • QR code generators like QRCode Monkey

  • Microsoft PowerPoint or Apple Keynote for presentation decks

  • Augmented reality tools like ARKit or Vuforia

Innovative Resumé Delivery Methods

Digital Approaches

Create a compelling video resumé highlighting your sales achievements and personality. Design an interactive PDF with embedded links to your LinkedIn profile and portfolio. Build a personal website showcasing your sales successes, complete with case studies and client testimonials. Launch a strategic LinkedIn campaign highlighting different aspects of your career journey.

Here are some creative ways to deliver a resume for a sales job search:

  1. Video Resume: Create a short, engaging video highlighting your skills, experience, and personality. This can help you stand out and make a solid first impression.

  2. Infographic Resume: Design a visually appealing infographic that presents your work history, achievements, and skills in a creative format.

  3. Interactive PDF: Develop an interactive PDF with clickable links to your LinkedIn profile, portfolio, or other relevant content.

  4. Portfolio Website: Build a personal website that showcases your resume, case studies of your sales successes, testimonials, and a blog to demonstrate your industry knowledge.

  5. Presentation Deck: Create a PowerPoint or Keynote presentation that outlines your career highlights, key achievements, and what you bring to the table.

  6. Social Media Campaign: Use LinkedIn or other professional networks to share your resume creatively. Post updates highlighting different aspects of your career, visuals, and success stories.

  7. Customized Brochure: Design a professional brochure that serves as your resume. This can be particularly effective for roles that involve face-to-face interaction and presentations.

  8. Sales Pitch Video: Record a video where you pitch yourself as if you were pitching a product. This can demonstrate your sales skills and ability to sell.

  9. QR Code Resume: Include a QR code on a traditional resume or business card that links to an online portfolio, video resume, or website.

  10. Interactive Timeline: Use tools like Prezi to create an interactive career timeline, showcasing key milestones and achievements.

  11. Augmented Reality Resume: For a genuinely cutting-edge approach, create an AR resume that allows potential employers to scan a code and view interactive elements related to your experience and skills.

These unique and creative approaches are not just about making a memorable impression on potential employers. They are about inspiring you to demonstrate your ability to think outside the box—an essential trait in sales.

My favorite story is about a marketing person who put his résumé into a box of donuts. He dressed as a delivery person and delivered the donuts and résumé to the conference room. He could put the box right in front of the hiring manager. This unique approach made him stand out and showcased his creativity and determination. It's a great story. You can read it here.

Recently, a job seeker had her résumé printed on a cake and delivered to Nike via Instacart. The article in Entrepreneur is here.

Another innovative example is a job seeker who created a custom LEGO set resembling the company's logo and sent it to the hiring manager. This unique approach showcased his creativity and attention to detail, making him a memorable candidate.

One more example involves a graphic designer who designed an entire website as her résumé. The interactive and visually appealing site demonstrated her skills directly, leading to multiple job offers.

While I'm not suggesting extreme measures for every job application, I encourage you to do something unique. These methods can motivate you to stand out, especially if you know you're perfect for a job or company. Whether it's mailing a résumé, connecting with the hiring manager on LinkedIn, or networking your way into a relationship, remember that quality things take time. By this, I mean that investing time and effort into your job search is essential and not to rush the process.

So, let's think about how to get your résumé to the right person. I turned 50 in September 2022. The first half of my work life was physical résumés at the front desk. Why not mail your résumé to the corporate office? If you want a particular job, do whatever it takes to land the interview. I'd love to hear about your own creative job search strategies. Best Practices for Standing Out

Whether you choose digital or physical delivery methods, remember that quality and professionalism should always be your priority. Invest time in researching your target company and customizing your approach. Sometimes, simply mailing a well-crafted physical resumé to the corporate office can be effective if done thoughtfully.

Remember: The goal isn't just to be different – it's to demonstrate your value as a sales professional in a memorable way.
